Ceramic Mold Release Agent

There are no undercuts and i would like to successfully make several casts without breaking the mold.

I have a plaster mold that i have sealed with shellac and need a release agent that will be suitable for casting in concrete or other. If used on highly detailed molds the petroleum jelly may be as thick as some of the fine details resulting in lost details on your finished resin object. Ive been using vaseline for the past 7 molds ive made it does the trick but not matter how sensitive you are brush marks or fingerprints will still appear in the plaster afterwords and that infuriates me. Vaseline is thick and stiff and thus tends to leave brush marks behind. Without such a barrier in place the substrate would become fused to the mold surface resulting in difficult clean up and dramatic loss in production efficiency. The mold release agent will form a layer between the plaster of paris and the mold that prevents the plaster from sticking to the mold s surface. The relief will be outside so needs to be weather proof.

Spray the mold s surface with a mold release agent purchased at most art supply stores or hobby shops. A variety of commercial products are available for this purpose but you also can make your own release agent. Also used with epoxy and urethane resins. Vegetable and mineral oil.

The functional siloxane is dispersed in water. There are commercial mold release agents available but people often use vaseline liquid hand soap pam cooking spray crisco vegetable oil liquid soap or murphy s oil soap. Common lubricating substances like petroleum jelly and vegetable oil often do the job at a fraction of the cost of specialty mold release agents.
