Additionally materials like silicon carbide sic may not fit the precise definition of a ceramic material but they can still be classified as part of the ceramic family. Kadco ceramics is dedicated to the precision diamond machining of hard materials into intricate shapes. Whilst cbn has a better tool life the cost per edge of a ceramic insert is a fraction of that of cbn approx one twentieth whilst feed rates chip thickness around 0 1mm and cutting speeds. We machine these materials to very precise tolerances many times measured in millionths of an inch for dimension flatness wedge and roundness or cylindricity.

Fine diamond machining full density parts ceramic parts fired to their full density are too hard for machining with tool steel cutters or even conventional methods.
